Las Vegas Democratic Socialists of America and community partners will be hosting Back-to-School Solidarity on August 7th to provide school supplies to families in need.
Getting the proper school supplies can be a large financial burden for families and teachers: a worker making median income in Clark County can expect to spend about two-thirds of their paycheck on school supplies, and 93% of public school teachers spend around $500 on school supplies for their students. But students who have the proper school supplies show greater self-esteem, ownership over their work, and interest in learning, all contributing to greater success in school.
Families needing school supplies can fill out the request form and pick up their supplies on August 7th from 11:00am – 2:00pm at United Movement Organized Kindness, located at 1010 N. Main Street. A delivery option is available to those who need it.
Update: The request form is now closed, but we will accept a limited number of walk-ins while supplies last.
