Despite the progress made for queer people and women through legalization of gay marriage, gender based discrimination protections, and much more, there are still many ways in which women and queer people are oppressed. Laws sweep across the country destroying bodily autonomy while fears of repealment of gender and sex based discrimination protections grow.
The Queer and Feminist Section seeks to take a critical socialist lens to the issues faced by women and the LGBTQ+ community and uplift those affected through collective solidarity. As a section, we also seek to empower queer and feminist organizing by providing a space for women and LGBTQ+ members in typically cisgender, straight, and male dominated leftist spaces while amplifying women and queer folk and helping coordinate queer and feminist organizing throughout the chapter’s work.
