LVDSA members are expected to follow abide by the chapter’s Code of Conduct (Article 10 of the chapter bylaws) and DSA’s Code of Conduct, which includes upholding the integrity and reputation of the organization, treating all people with respect and dignity, recognizing and avoiding possible conflicts of interest, and being responsible for the use of information, equipment, and resources that they have gained access to by reason of their membership. Unacceptable member behavior includes, but is not limited to: creating a hostile, offensive, or abusive environment for other members; engaging in undemocratic or disruptive behavior; and engaging in any actions detrimental to the purpose or values of the organization. As an organization that seeks solidarity among the working class, marginalized, and oppressed, discrimination or harassment by anyone against anyone on the basis of sex, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, physical appearance, disability, race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, class, age, or profession is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
Harassment Grievance Officers
At the annual local convention, the chapter elects Harassment Grievance Officers (HGOs) according to Article 10 of the bylaws. HGOs assist members in making complaints, investigate complaints, report the results of investigations to the appropriate body, and educate members on the grievance process. Harassment Grievance Officers can also assist in situations of a less serious nature like minor interpersonal conflict, disagreement, or help navigating communication in the chapter.
The current HGOs are Juni L., Anthony L., and [vacant].
Filing a Complaint or Requesting Assistance
To file a complaint or request assistance from an HGO, members should email lvdsagrievances@gmail.com. This email address is a confidential hotline that is only accessible by the HGOs.
