Electoral Working Group

As socialists, we understand that there are multiple paths to working class power. While the bourgeoisie have organized into a democratic state, electoral politics remains one of the avenues that socialists can achieve state power. Nationally, DSA’s political presence is one of our best recruitment tools and has led to gains in both membership and political power.

As socialists, we understand the concept of doing the most good with what is available, however we also know that pro-capitalist legislators will never challenge the power structures in a way that makes a meaningful difference to the working class. That is why our main goal will be to recruit and train socialist candidates to run as LVDSA-endorsed candidates. While we do so, we will engage in politics in ways that support strategic working class issues such as rent control or higher wages. The electoral group will aim to increase membership and member participation through electoral programs.

Lobbyists Set the Agenda During Nevada’s 83rd Session

The Nevada landscape is not the same as the federal landscape. In Congress, we know that power players like Big Pharma and AIPAC run the show. Here in Nevada, it’s the Chambers of Commerce, the Nevada Realtors, the Retail Association of Nevada, mining companies, and big casinos.
