October 7th Vigil for Palestine

Monday, October 7th @ 7:00 PM

Las Vegas DSA has partnered with a coalition of local activist groups for a vigil on October 7th, marking the one-year anniversary of Israel’s intensification of its retaliation against Palestinian resistance. This solemn gathering will honor the martyrs who have lost their lives over the past year and in the 76 years of ongoing oppression in Palestine.

The event will include a lantern-crafting activity, symbolizing the illumination of the path toward freedom and justice for the Palestinian people. All community members are invited to participate and stand in solidarity with the global resistance movement. The vigil will take place at Sunset Park, at the picnic area across from Sunrise Coffee on Sunset Rd., near the corner of Sunset Rd. and Tomiyasu Lane.

“In Palestine, there are echoes of Vietnam, reverberations of Iraq, and reflections of Afghanistan. The atrocities, past and present, in Lebanon, Algeria, Sudan, Congo, Tigray, Haiti, India, and against the Indigenous peoples of the Americas, are part of the same brutal legacy of colonization, perpetuated and enabled by the elected governments of the Global North,” explained LVDSA Member and CODEPINK Las Vegas organizer Jennifer Kimball.

“On the one-year mark of Israel’s genocide, we gather to mourn the lives lost, the displaced communities, and those struggling to survive. We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and commit to fighting for their peace and liberation until Palestine is free — From the River to the Sea.”

The event is co-organized by CODEPINK Las Vegas, UNLV Students for Justice in Palestine, Red Desert Collective, and the Las Vegas chapter of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
