About LVDSA's Racial Justice Committee
The capitalist system is deeply intertwined with white supremacy in the United States. The capitalist class uses racist oppression to divide the working classes against themselves and maintain its dominance. In order to end capitalism and build a democratic socialist society we must oppose all forms of white supremacy and racist oppression. As socialists, we believe the fate and liberation of all working class people are bound up together, as stated by Indigenous activist Lilla Watson: “If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”
The Racial Justice Committee aims to oppose racism and racial exploitation, and work to dismantle white supremacy, colonization, and all systems of oppression. We strive towards the creation of a transformative or restorative justice system that rejects retributive punishment and replaces it with a system that actually improves the lives of our communities.
