There is no strong socialist movement without a militant and powerful labor movement. One cannot overstate the importance of collective organizing for worker power in the maintenance of a democratic society. This organizing is also critical to linking DSA members effectively to the struggles of the working class. Nevada is a right-to-work state, so the obstacles to labor unions and their fight for workers are many; thus LVDSA’s Labor committee pledges support and solidarity with the labor movement in the fight for dignity, respect, job security, and democracy in the workplaces of Las Vegas.
The LVDSA Labor committee is currently working on collecting data through our COVID-19 Employment Survey in order to best gauge what the biggest concerns are for individuals in our community. Everyone is encouraged to fill out this survey to let us know about their current situation, whether unemployed or employed.
In addition, we are adopting National DSA’s Restaurant Organizing Project geared to supporting hospitality and service workers. We want to make sure everyone can return to work in a setting that feels safe and appropriate.
