LVDSA’s Education Committee presents Socialist Night School: Democracy and Socialism

This month’s Night School follows up last month’s introduction to capitalism with our preferred replacement: socialism. We can’t cover socialism, a rich topic with an equally rich history, in a one- to two-hour event. This being the case, the presentation will focus on a crucial if under-discussed (especially in mainstream treatments) aspect of socialism: democracy. While Marx said that we shouldn’t write “recipes for the cookshops of the future”—meaning that we can’t plan now, in the midst of late-stage capitalism, exactly how a socialist society will look—we can still sketch aspects of the menu.
